Mayevsky crane: principle of operation and the need for installation
Often a heating system malfunction occurs as a result of accumulated air. The created plugs prevent the movement of the coolant along the circuit. This reduces the efficiency of the entire heating system. To eliminate such problems, the Mayevsky crane was created, the principle of which is to bleed air masses. This device is mounted at the top of the batteries and is controlled both automatically and manually.

Mayevsky crane: principle of operation and device
Air locks occur in the following situations:
- when installing a new heating system;
- when draining water from highways and carrying out repair work;
- when installing radiators;
- if corrosion processes are present;
- with leaks in the circuit.
Mayevsky's automatic faucet is made of brass material, which is characterized by resistance to rust. The device consists of a body with a cone-type needle valve. The valve is controlled by a plug screw that is installed externally. When closed, such a valve does not allow the coolant to pass through. Turning the screw helps to release the accumulated air.
All devices differ in the cross-section of the external thread, which allows you to choose the option in size. To configure such devices, a screwdriver or an adjustable wrench is used. Such products are made most often from brass, since such a material is characterized by resistance to manifestations of an aggressive environment.
The air vent can have different configurations, but the principle of operation of the Mayevsky crane is similar in many models. The valves are selected by diameter and are mounted in the battery cases.In a horizontal installation, such devices are attached to each battery.
Useful advice! Installation of Mayevsky's cranes on radiators will be required if the structure contains sections that are below the device connection.

There are several types of air vents:
- the Mayevsky manual crane is a simple device. If uneven heating is detected, then the device is opened with a special key. Then, after the air plugs come out, the valve is turned back;
- the automatic device does not have a manual control method. Such products are made of brass and have a cylindrical shape. Moreover, the product does not have a needle valve, instead of which a plastic float is used. The mechanism, when air locks are formed, begins to move and affects the opening of the device;
- the principle of operation of the Mayevsky crane with a built-in safety mechanism differs from the usual air release. The safety valve regulates the pressure head. If the indicator exceeds the permissible parameters, then the valve is triggered and releases the coolant forcibly. This avoids the occurrence of water hammer in the structure. This option is great for metal-plastic or polypropylene pipelines.
What should you look for when choosing a device?
Before installing the Mayevsky crane, pay attention to certain parameters of the radiators. For centralized heating schemes, it will be advisable to use manual devices that allow you to bleed air as needed. Automatic taps are best installed if there is an autonomous heating system.
In centralized systems, the coolant is highly contaminated, which will affect the constant clogging of through holes in automatic structures. It is better to install automation in hard-to-reach places, but it is important to monitor the cleanliness of the coolant. If the mechanism is mounted on a battery that stands in a recess in the wall, then adjustment will become difficult due to the inaccessibility of the adjusting screw. In this case, you can use a special key, which is located in the same plane with the battery.
Many heating systems are still built with cast iron batteries. In this case, you can use a manual model of the Mayevsky crane for cast-iron radiators or automatic devices made of brass.
How to carry out the correct installation of the Mayevsky crane?
It is not so easy to install a Mayevsky crane if you do not have special knowledge. It is important that the gasket for installing such a device is silicone or rubber. When installing such a device, make sure that the valve is the same size as the inlet.
- before work, you need to free the system from water;
- the latest batteries have tap slots. If there are plugs, the tap should instead be installed so that the hole is turned away from the wall and slopes downward.
When attaching the air vent to a "second-hand" battery, a slot is made in the plug part and a thread is cut in it.Then the main device is connected using a key for the Mayevsky crane.
Installing an automatic air vent: how it works
Automatic products have a sealed brass body. A float is installed inside the mechanism, which is connected to the drain valve. Such a device will only work with an open locking cap. Before work, the cap is unscrewed a few turns.
The principle of operation of an automatic air vent for heating depends on the specific type of product. There are three types of devices in total:
- straight models are mounted vertically;
- corner ones are installed at a certain angle;
- special devices for radiators.
When using a low-quality coolant, the air outlet can be clogged, contributing to a loose fit of the valve.
Product operation rules
The Mayevsky crane must be used correctly. To work with the mechanism, place a container under the radiator and put a dry cloth. Using a wrench, the screw is turned in the desired direction. After that, air begins to be released from the installation, and then water begins to flow. It is important to wait for the fluid to flow without interruption.
If the system includes pumps, they must be disconnected ten minutes before the process before venting. After the heating season, the adjustment screw is treated with special silicone grease. This will protect the threads from the action of the coolant. If it becomes necessary to replace the tap, then pick up adjustable wrenches. Hold it on the radiator with one key and unscrew the tap with the second.
With proper care, timely maintenance and cleaning, the device will last a long time and will not cause problems.
