- 1 - device body with elements for wall mounting;
- 2 – diffuser, which is a collection of combustion products, equipped with a branch pipe for connection to the chimney;
- 3 - heat exchanger;
- 4 - gas burner;
- 5 - water unit;
- 6 - membrane;
- 7 - gas solenoid valve;
- 8 - controller;
- 9 - microswitch;
- 10 - water supply tube;
- 11 - ignition electrode;
- 12 - flame sensor;
- 13 - electrode for ignition of the burner;
- 14 and 15 - adjusting elements (valve - flow regulator and combustion intensity control knob).
Installation and operation of gas water heaters is regulated by SNiP 42-01-2002 "Gas distribution systems" and SP 42-101-2003 "General provisions for the design and construction of gas distribution systems from metal and polyethylene pipes."

How the gas water heater works can be seen on the example of the "Neva 4511" model, the design of which is discussed above. Running flow water heater happens as follows:
- when opening the water tap (which is installed on the hot water pipeline) connected to the water taps (No. 5 in the figure) of the gas water heater, the water pressure affects the membrane (No. 6 in the figure) located in a special reducer (frog);
- the diaphragm is connected to the stem, which, while moving, opens the gas valve (no. 7) and closes the contacts of the microswitch (no. 9);
- gas is supplied to the burner (no. 4), and an electric current is supplied to the ignition electrode (no. 11) from the batteries (batteries), as a result of which gas breakdown and ignition occurs;
- the flame sensor (no. 12) transmits a signal to the controller (no. 8), after which the electric circuit is opened and the column goes into normal operation;
- when the water tap is closed, the membrane returns to its original position, thereby closing the gas supply valve, - the column is finished.
Gas instantaneous water heaters of the "Neva" brand are produced in different types and may differ in the following characteristics:
- by power and method of ignition;
- by the type of combustion chamber and chimney design;
- on the availability of control and safety systems;
- by type and number of additional functions.

The main determining condition for the use of a particular technical means is its technical characteristics, which fully applies to gas flowing water heaters.
The main technical characteristics declared by manufacturers in the manufacture of such products are:
- Performance. This indicator informs about how much water the unit can heat up per unit of time, which is expressed in liters per minute or kilowatts (kW). Knowing the number of tapping points connected to the water heater, it is possible to determine the capacity required for it in order to ensure normal operation at maximum load.
- Maximum and minimum working pressure. The mode of using the geyser and, in general, the possibility of its operation depends on the pressure of the water in the supply water pipe. This is due to the fact that at low pressure the column will not start up, because the pressure of water will not be able to act on the diaphragm with the required force, and as a result, the gas valve will not open. With an excessively high pressure, the gas column may fail, which will lead to an accident on the gas equipment, which is unacceptable.
- Power. This indicator can be changed, modulated during the use of an instantaneous water heater. This is done using a regulator located on the front panel of the housing, by means of which the amount of gas supplied to the burner, and as a consequence the temperature of the heated water, changes. The power of the units is measured in kilowatts (kW).
- Ignition type.
Different models may have three options for the ignition device:
- manual - when the supplied gas is ignited at the ignition electrode by means of a match brought by the user;
- piezo ignition - carried out by a piezoelectric element at the moment the user presses a special button located on the front panel of the device case;
- electric (electronic) - occurs automatically when the gas valve is opened, can be performed from autonomous power sources (batteries) or from the electrical network.
- Heat exchanger type.
The performance of the model depends on the type of heat exchanger, because this structural element can be made of various materials with different thermal conductivity:
- steel - distinctive features are: durability and low cost;
- highly purified copper - the most optimal option for such products, characterized by good thermal conductivity and strength;
- ordinary copper - is the least durable and reliable material prone to destruction.
- Type of removal of combustion products. According to this indicator, gas water heaters are classified as with a chimney device serving as a channel for removing combustion products and without it.
