Wooden shutter doors - style and convenience
FROMstylish and functional element interior made of environmentally friendly material - these are wooden louvered doors. Louvered doors in the interior
Doors with a lattice of thin slats have earned popularity due to their lightness and very cozy appearance. Traditionally, natural wood serves as the material for their manufacture. The lightness and plasticity of this material allowed for the creation of breathable, versatile designs.
Wooden shutter doors are based on a solid wood frame into which thin glued timber slats are embedded. The choice in favor of glued structures was not made by chance. Any wooden product is subject to deformation, which is inevitable in conditions of changing humidity. The thinner the wood part, the more it “leads” it, even if the raw material was originally high-grade. The reason for this behavior of the material is the fibrous structure.
A large number of thin details are used in jalousie doors - transverse slats - lamellas. If they deform over time, then the product will have to be thrown away. Glued lath is made of several layers of wood, assembled in a transverse pattern and glued with a special harmless compound. After this treatment, the slats acquire the highest strength, while remaining flexible. Read more aboutwood putty for interior work on the pages of our portal.
After gluing, wood of any kind becomes strong and durable. Pine is most often used for the manufacture of doors, as it is easy to use and ideal for living quarters, like other conifers. The doors can be made from more expensive wood, but this will not affect their strength and durability.

Installation of louvered doors
Depending on the purpose, wooden shutter doors can be used in different ways:
- classic rectangular canvases, consisting of a frame and lamellas, which are hung according to the usual pattern in the door frame or on furniture;
- folding doors - frame models that are closed and opened with an accordion using a special metal guide;
- fixed shields, imitating the shape of the door - are used as screens;
- hinged doors - rectangular leaves with a hydraulic opening mechanism;
- wooden blinds, in which there is no frame, and opening and closing takes place like window blinds.
The latter type is used extremely rarely due to the fact that when assembled, they occupy a large volume.
Hinged door installation
Install wooden hinged louvered doors in the interior openings, thus ensuring air circulation between the rooms. Lattice doors are very appropriate in cabinets of any type - from kitchen to wardrobe. The reason is the same - to ensure air exchange, which is necessary for the proper storage of things, dishes, shoes and other items.
The door leaf is installed in a pre-prepared box using metal hinges. Particular strength from the fastening parts is not required, since the doors themselves are lightweight and perform the function of light partitions... When hanging on furniture also, no special skills or devices are required except for a furniture hinge and a special tool - Forstner's drill.
Fitting a door with a guide
Folding wooden louvered doors are used for large cabinets and dressing rooms, but sometimes the openings between rooms are also arranged in this way. In order for the door to open and at the same time fold like an accordion, you will have to foresee several points in advance:
- the canvases should be narrow (preferably up to 30 cm) and light, and the thickness should not exceed 3.5 - 4 cm, there are no height restrictions;
- the doors are connected to each other by universal hinges, of which there must be at least three;
- fastening is carried out to one of the walls and the ceiling, on which an aluminum guide is installed;
- the rollers should easily walk along the guide, it is better if they are made of a special composition - a mixture of ceramics and polymer, such mechanisms are the most durable and produce less noise during operation.
The installation process consists in the sequential assembly of all elements.
There are options with sliding sliding doors, the installation process of which is identical to the previous one, only the guide is used with a double groove, and the size of the canvases can be wider - up to 50 cm.
Where to use louvered doors
Despite the obvious advantages that wooden louvered doors have, they also have a number of disadvantages, for example, a complete lack of sound insulation between roomsseparated by a lattice door. The possibility of unobstructed air circulation is accompanied by the penetration of foreign odors into the cabinets or between rooms, in addition, the rack structure requires periodic cleaning with special compounds, which is time-consuming.
However, in the house, you can find several places where a blind door would fit perfectly:
- pantry doors, sanitary cabinets, closets - that is, small rooms that require constant ventilation;
- dressing room doors, since most things, especially footwear and leather and fur products, need constant humidity and temperature, and the grates just provide air exchange and a kind of air conditioning;
- doors in rooms located on the sunny side, because even if they remain closed, they will provide ventilation of the room.

How to choose the right doors
A quality product always consists of a minimum number of connections. The manufacturing technology assumes that grooves are cut in a one-piece guide using a cutter, and lamellas are simply inserted into them without any glue. A sign of a high-quality canvas is the absence of glue smudges, for example, some backlash from the installation sites of the rails. When tapping with fingers on the lamellas, a characteristic sonorous sound should appear. A door that has all of the above characteristics can serve for decades.
