Floor wide plastic skirting boards
INContrary to popular belief, floor wide plastic skirting boards are perfectly integrated into the interiors of small rooms, and not only large apartments. The floor fillet made of PVC, polyurethane, and other polymeric materials is an independent decorative element and has a high resource.

Types and selection criteria
Floor wide plastic skirting boards have a height of 70 - 150 mm, therefore they are often referred to as curbs. The shape of the decorative strips is much more diverse than that of the narrow one - from the classic "boot" to the convex relief with numerous fillets and edges.
Aggressive advertising of wide fillet manufacturers is not true:
- furniture close to the wall it will not work, since the bar still has a certain thickness (usually 25 - 30 mm);
- most furniture manufacturers round off the side walls of the cabinets at the junction of the floor and walls, however, these recesses are designed for a regular plinth, therefore, when choosing a wide modification, the chest of drawers will move further from the wall;
- narrow plinth thicker, its channels accommodate a thick round fiber-optic cable; only flat cables can be hidden in a narrow high fillet.
Therefore, a polymer floor fillet is more suitable for decorating open, free from furniture spaces. Manufacturers take into account the requirements for the installation of floor coverings, so the thickness of the plank allows you to close the gaps around the perimeter of the rooms, the damper tape. It should be noted that a wide fillet will not fit under the low-lying heating registers. Cropping will reduce the aesthetics of the interior.
There are many options for attaching to the enclosing structures, the specific technology is selected depending on the structure of the wall /partitions, cladding of vertical surfaces. A tall baguette facilitates wet cleaning of the room, since it is much easier to wipe polymeric materials than wall coverings.
Skirting board properties
Floor wide plastic skirting boards are more convenient than wooden ones due to the presence of internal cavities, greater flexibility, and a budget price. It is difficult to press a wooden fillet against a radius wall, the polymer material easily bends around curved surfaces. However, the characteristics of plastics are somewhat different.
Helpful information! Only polyurethane floor moldings have an imitation of stucco molding. Wide PVC skirting board always has a smooth surface of the decorative part.
Polyurethane
Floor wide plastic polyurethane skirting boards are often confused with ceiling fillets, which are made of expanded or extruded polystyrene. Polyurethane wide fillets have the following properties:
- white by default, the ability to paint in any color (usually with acrylic paints);
- high elasticity, resistance to mechanical damage;
- weather resistance (the material is not afraid of changes in humidity, temperature, solar ultraviolet radiation);
- light weight that does not create additional loads on the structural frame of the building.
The edges of polyurethane products are soft, which allows you to hide small defects in the flatness of the walls, horizontal screeds. Unlike PVC fillets, a polyurethane baguette is one-piece, therefore wires, cables are laid before installation.
Corner fillers for polyurethane products are usually absent, so the edge is cut at an angle of 45 degrees in the miter box. TO platbands the strips are adjacent without plugs.
PVC plastic
Wide plastic PVC skirting boards are characterized by high rigidity. To mask floor / wall defects, the edges of the product are extended with rubber or polyurethane edges. The front plate of polyvinyl chloride modifications is usually removable, which makes it easier to lay communications after installation. There is no imitation of stucco molding on these baguettes, the front part is painted or laminated under the veneer of valuable, rare species in a single color.
PVC products have several mounting options for different wall materials. Additional elements are:
- corners - external and internal, put on the strips, can be repeatedly dismantled, have cable channels for communications;
- connectors - equipped with grooves on both sides for joining fillets along the length when building up;
- plugs - are installed at the door frames or close the end of the plinth on the walls.
Non-separable vinyl fillets are cheaper, PVC skirting boards with removable decorative strips are more expensive.
Installation technology
Plastic plinth 100 mm made of polyurethane is usually glued to the walls with special compounds. Liquid nails destroy the structure of the material, so either quick-drying putties or sealants are used. On curved sections, moldings are additionally fixed with hardware:
- small nails - the caps are either cut off by analogy with platbands, or they are sunk, later puttyed, painted;
- self-tapping screws - the caps are sunk, putty or decorated with special plugs of the same color as the bar itself;
- glue - the mixture is applied to all elements adjacent to the wall.
Plastic skirting boards with PVC cable duct have more mounting options:
- double-sided tape - only on straight sections with low traffic in the absence of pets;
- adhesive composition - it is allowed to use sealants, putties, liquid nails;
- dowel-nails - on detachable versions, the decorative strip is removed, the plinth is drilled through, the dowel is driven in, the self-tapping screw is screwed in screwdriver or with a screwdriver until it stops, the bar is returned to its place;
- staples - fastened with a step of 30 - 40 cm on straight sections, additionally installed in places where it is necessary to hide defects in the flatness of the walls or press the plinth to the floor in the pits, after which the molding is snapped into the brackets with special locks located in its rear part.
Conclusion
Thus, wide skirting boards made of polymer materials can be selected and assembled independently. They are attached to concrete / brick walls with dowels or brackets, to drywall mechanically glued or fixed to the lathing.
