Cellar made of plastic - an alternative to traditional counterparts
A plastic cellar can be considered a modern and effective solution. It is possible to create quite reliable and durable containers from this material, which, when placed in the ground, can serve for more than 50 years. Due to the presence of stiffeners, structures can withstand quite high loads.

Consideration of the main pros and cons
Before purchasing ready-made plastic containers for use as a cellar, you should familiarize yourself with the positive and negative sides of this option. The final decision on the use of such products should be made taking into account the advantages and disadvantages.
Most important benefits
Consumers leave a lot of positive reviews about plastic cellars, which is primarily due to the large number of positive qualities. The most important of them should be mentioned:
- a very long period of operation (the service life of containers can reach 50 years);
- lack of additional measures to improve the tightness;
- relatively light weight, which allows installation work to be carried out without unnecessary difficulties;
- wide range of standard sizes.
Helpful information! The finished containers are usually equipped with ventilation pipes, a hatch and special shelves, so they can be used immediately after installation.
Some disadvantages
A significant disadvantage is the cost of finished structures. For example, to buy a cellar made of plastic with insulation, you will have to pay a decent amount of money. With the number of additional options, the price also increases significantly.However, the absence of the need for any work after installation attracts many consumers.
Cellar made of plastic: the price of finished containers and the cost of installation
In the modern market, the prices of plastic caissons for a cellar are relatively high, however, to create a sealed and reliable storage facility, you can fork out, especially since after the acquisition, additional work on its arrangement is not required.
Approximate prices for plastic cellars for cottages and houses
If you purchase containers without ordering a subsequent installation, then you will be able to save a lot. The package usually includes: shelves for storing food, stairs for descent and ascent, ventilation pipes. However, each manufacturer has its own list of additional elements.
Table 1. Average cost of plastic cellars.
Linear dimensions in centimeters | Volume in cubic meters | Price in rubles |
---|---|---|
150x150x200 | 4,5 | 95 000 |
200x150x175 | 5,3 | 108 000 |
250x150x200 | 5,5 | 130 000 |
250x200x200 | 6,3 | 150 000 |
300x200x200 | 12 | 165 000 |
Note! The cost of plastic containers is quite high, since only food grade plastic is used in the manufacture. There is no strong plastic smell inside the camera.
Cellar order for a summer residence: turnkey price
If ready-made plastic cellars are purchased directly with installation on the site, then prices will rise significantly. The table shows the average prices that are taken for mounting a container in the ground.
Table 2. Average prices that are taken for mounting a container in the ground
Dimensions in centimeters | Volume in cubic meters | Price in rubles |
---|---|---|
120x120x150 | 2,16 | 32 500 |
120x120x175 | 2,5 | 37 500 |
120x120x200 | 2,8 | 42 000 |
150x120x200 | 3,6 | 54 000 |
150x150x200 | 4,5 | 67 500 |
200x120x200 | 4,8 | 72 000 |
Note! To calculate how much a ready-made turnkey plastic cellar costs, it is necessary to add the cost of installation work to the price of a particular product.
Self-installation of a plastic container in the ground
In order not to pay companies for installation work, you can dig the container yourself into the ground. The first step is to choose products made from quality raw materials. To do this, during the acquisition, all documents and certificates must be checked.
It's not worth chasing cheapness. There are no inexpensive containers for the cellar made of plastic. The acquired structure must necessarily have stiffening ribs, making it possible to withstand pressure during ground movements.
Installation of a plastic cellar begins with the preparation of the pit. Its dimensions should be 20-30 cm larger than the container itself. A sand cushion with a thickness of 10-15 cm is placed on the bottom to align with the horizontal. With a close occurrence of groundwater, a reinforced concrete slab is laid. A container will be attached to it to prevent surfacing.
The plastic box is placed on the plate, after which it is fixed to it using special slings. Usually, two straps are sufficient at the edges. If the dimensions of the container are too large, then the belt in the central part is additionally pulled.
After the fixation is completed, the space between the container and the walls of the pit is backfilled with a mixture of cement and sand. For one bucket of binder, five buckets of filler are usually added. Backfilling continues until only the top is visible.
Pipes are inserted into the prepared holes ventilation... They should be located in different parts of the container.On the inside, one pipe is placed in close proximity to the floor, and the other under the ceiling. When the ventilation elements are installed, backfilling can be continued. Only the neck should remain.
Shelves and stairs are mounted inside. If necessary, lighting is done, other communications are also carried out. If the container is installed in a cold region, the surfaces are insulated using foam plastic.

Comparison with a cellar made of reinforced concrete rings
Very often, a chamber for storing food is made from rings of reinforced concrete, which are capable of withstanding numerous loads. However, when using them, it is impossible to achieve tightness without additional work. Seams between elements should be sealed with cement-sand mortar.
Due to the heavy weight of the reinforced concrete rings, the installation process is quite complicated. At smaller sizes, the elements have a greater mass. They have to be lowered into the pit by the forces of several people or with the help of special equipment.
Unlike concrete caissons, plastic counterparts can have different shapes, due to which their operational capabilities are significantly expanded. The use of round cameras is not always a justified measure. With this option, as a rule, useful area is lost.
Due to the same impressive weight, the reinforced concrete structure is prone to shrinkage. After a few months, the rings may drop a few centimeters, especially if the soil in the area is very loose.
Summarizing
It should be admitted that a plastic cellar is a winning solution when compared with structures made of other materials. With a small wall thickness, it is possible to achieve maximum tightness and optimal strength characteristics. At the same time, the service life of plastic containers is quite long.
